Young Parents To Be
Preparing teenage parents for the responsibility of parenthood, support will be given so the student can undertake an accredited qualification. Students will receive mentoring and support, including the opportunity to meet other teenage parents.
The centre has strong links with the teenage pregnancy midwives and advisors and appropriate support is given in, amongst other areas:
- Housing issues
- Access to counselling
- Safety in the home
Through workshops and individual supported study, parents are taught about:
- Preparing for the birth
- Health awareness
- Drug and alcohol issues
Support continues after the birth, with a view to improving the parents’ employability. Guidance is given on:
- Careers and vocation
- CV writing
- Childcare issues
The course aims to raise parents’ aspirations and self-esteem and to provide a network of support to tackle the problems of isolation that can be associated with teen parenthood.
